What is a privacy notice and why it’s important

A Privacy Notice tells you everything you need to know about how Girls Human Rights Hub collects and uses information (also called personal data) about you, who we might share it with and what your rights are about the way we use it. Personal data means any information that can be used to identify you, like your name, email address and what you tell us about your life and experiences.

This privacy notice is designed to be read by young people. You might want to read it with a parent, guardian, or a teacher. If you still have questions, you can ask us, and we will help.

Who looks after your information

Girls Human Rights Hub is in charge of the information collected about you. We have person called the Data Protection Officer whose job it is to make sure we do everything the law says we should to make sure your information is kept safe and used fairly.

What information do we collect about you

You can use many of our services without having to tell us anything about yourself. We will only ever collect the data we need, nothing more. This might just be your name and age. Sometimes we need more information to be able to support you or to register you to use one of our service or attend an event. This may include; your address, date of birth, phone number and email address. We may also hold information about your needs and things that are important to you and may also include your ethnicity, religion and any disabilities or health problems you may have. We will also keep a record of what you tell us about yourself or what your parents, guardians and others who care for you tell us. Remember, It is your choice to decide what information to share with us.

Do you have to give us information

No, but for some of our services you may be asked to give us your name, age, and email address. There is some information that you can choose to give us or not. If you choose not to give us this information, we cannot refuse to offer you the service or to help you. The exception is if we need the information to give you the service. In each case, we will make it clear when you have a choice. Depending on your age we may need the permission of your parent, guardian, teacher or other adult who is responsible for your care. This is usually if you are under 16 years of age.

What do we use your information for

We use your information to be able to help and support you and provide you with access to our services. If you have signed up to receive our information pack or newsletter, we will use your information to send this to you. If we are worried about your safety, we may also use it to help safeguard and protect you.

We may also use your diversity information so that we can better understand how diversity matters to you and our services.

  

Will we ever share your data with anybody

When we have to share your information with other people, we will only share it when you say it is OK, or when the law says that we have to, for example if we are worried about your safety. This may include sharing with Social Services, the Police and other charities who may be able to help you. When your data is shared with someone else, they must keep it safe and follow the same rules about the use of your information that we do.

 

How long will we keep your information for

We will usually keep your personal information for 7 years after our last contact with you. Sometimes we may need to keep it for longer if we are worried about your safety. In most cases, if you are under 18, we won’t keep it after your 25th birthday.

 

Can you ask to have your information changed

If you think that some of the information we hold about you is wrong, you can ask us to check it and if necessary correct it.

 

Can I see and have a copy of my information

Yes, you can get a copy of the information that Girls Human Rights Hub holds about you. You can do this by asking your support worker, or our Data Protection Officer at admin@ghrh.org to organise this for you. Depending on your age we may need to send your data to your parent or guardian, but we will always talk to you about it first.

 

Important things to remember

The law allows us to collect and use your information. We may share your information with others and will ask for your permission to share your information whenever you have a choice. You can tell us not to share your information, even when you have said yes before. If you have any questions, please ask your support worker or our Data Protection Officer admin@ghrh.org
